Board of Directors
Todd Barnett is the
Founding Head of School and he teaches History. He has over 20 years of teaching experience
at Landon School, Woodberry Forest School, Grand River Academy, St. Anne’s-Belfield
School, and the University of Pennsylvania. He holds a B.A. from the
University of Virginia, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in History from the University
of Pennsylvania. In 2000, he co-founded the
Field Camp of Charlottesville. He has
won awards for both his teaching and writing.
Todd and his wife Meredith
Montague live in Charlottesville.
Becca Covert
is proud to be a Field School Pioneer - She and her husband of 15
years, Bill are parents to two boys; Riley came to 5th grade the
opening day of the school in 2007 and Toby is a current 5th Grader. Also at home are two cats, a tankful of hermit
crabs, and a pending flock of chickens. Becca is an avid sewer of children's clothes,
passionate crafter and a novice gardner.
Cindy
Fredrick
is the Assistant Vice President for Alumni and Parent Engagement at the University
of
Virginia. Cindy joined the Office of Engagement in 2006 after serving 14 years
as the President and Executive Director of Madison House, U.Va.’s student
volunteer center. Prior to her career with the University
of
Virginia, Cindy served as Director of Social Services and Admissions for long term
care facilities, Managing Director for a Children’s Theatre and Associate
Director for Virginians Against Sexual Assault. Cindy hold’s a B.S.W.
(social work) from
Luther
College
in
Decorah,
Iowa
and a M.Ed. (educational administration) from
California
State
University
in Sacramento. Cindy has been active in the
Charlottesville
area community since 1989 and has held leadership positions on several
non-profit boards including; Chair of the Charlottesville Social Service
Advisory Board, Chair and Secretary of Retired Senior Volunteer Advisory
Board, Secretary of OffStage Theatre and Education Committee Chair for the
Sexual Assault Resource Agency. Cindy is a graduate of Leadership
Charlottesville and has served as a volunteer with youth sports leagues, her
children’s schools and her church.
Proal Heartwell
is the co-founder and
co-Director of the Village School, a
Middle School for Girls in Charlottesville. He has a B.A. in English from
the University of Virginia and an M.A. in English from George Mason. He has
taught all levels of English from AP to English as a Second language, both
in the Charlottesville public school system and at Village School. He has
won fellowship and grant awards from the council for Basic Education, the
National Endowment for the Humanities, the Foundations for Excellence in
Public Education and the Center for Liberal Studies. He and his wife Susan
and their daughter Elise live in Charlottesville.
